How bizarre!

Don’t you hate it when you get something stuck in your head and it won’t go away?

When you’re trying to remember something and it just won’t come. it’s on the tip of your tongue but it just won’t come to you. Extremely frustrating.

Birthday night drinks at the Midnight Shift with Yoda (yes, I managed to get him out to a Gay venue!) and on the video screen comes ‘Slice of Heaven’ by Dave Dobbin – a mildly annoying mega-one-hit-wonder from New Zealand. It went on to appear in about 25,000 New Zealand tourist adverts.

But anyway, something else came into my head. Another song. Another one-hit wonder from New Zealand that was also huge in Oz. A common phrase. Maori/Islander people in the clip. Sort of spoken rather than sung really. “You know the one….,” I said to Yoda. But Yoda just looked totally blank. He had no idea what I was talking about. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!

And then I got at least one phrase…something like “if you wanna know more, buy the rights.” It then goes into the chorus – the title of the song. But would it come to me? No way. No way! I spent hours going over it in my head on Friday night to no avail. Yoda and I continued my birthday celebrations at the Saddle Bar and then at the Clarence in Petersham. But still no song title. I could see the clip in my head but the song title still would not come to me.

Thank god for the internet sometimes. I mean really! A soon as I got home, I fired up the PC and typed in ‘New Zealand One Hit Wonders’ into Google. After a few false starts it finally showed up….

‘How Bizarre’ by OMC.

Eureka! Eureka! Eureka! I could go to bed and sleep now that my quest had been answered!

It wasn’t that the song was so special but just that it really pissed me off that I couldn’t remember the name of it when I knew I knew it. As soon as I told Yoda the next day he remembered it immediately.

How bizarre!
