A quick trip to IKEA at Rhodes

I was in a bus on my way to JB HiFi yesterday when James O’Brien called. He’d had an inspiration – ‘let’s go to IKEA!’ The day was completely reorganised with a few phone calls and text messages between James, Yoda and myself.

I jumped of fthe bus at Petersham and headed into town on a train. We met up and were soon speeding through the suburbs on a mostly express train to IKEA. James & Yoda just had to have Swedish meatballs at the IKEA restaurant of course. That gave me time to explore the other shops at Rhodes Shopping Centre such as they are.

Walking around IKEA made my feet ache. It’s rather big. And apparently there’s an even bigger one being built at Tempe next year. At least that will be closer to where I live.

James bought some glasses for work, some ‘Bumerang’ coat hangers and a light bulb. Grant took copious notes about CD and DVD storage and small dining tables. I just wandered around touching things and giggling at their names 😉

When we headed back to the train station it was bucketing down. And the train was 15 minutes late. Ah, City Rail…some things never change.

Gloomy day at Rhodes in Sydney. Grey skies and rain!

Probably the least smelly type of fish you'd ever get from Sweden!

I was tempted to buy one thing at IKEA – Swedish Fish. They don’t look like the normal sort of pickled herring that Swedes are wont to eat. These look like fun!

Overall visiting IKEA yesterday was an unexpected and fun trip. And a good way to end a rather dull long weekend.

  1. Hmmmmm…Malaco Swedish Fish you say. I looked at the list of ingredients and one was carnauba wax! I was just wondering when they started putting wax in an omega 3 fatty oil product?
    Sorry…couldn’t resist.
I’m still lurking here in the northwestern USA waiting for next spring to roll around. If Judy will let me I’d like to go visit Ryan in San Diego around May 1st & go to the “Arrival” concert in Palm Springs. I would expect all the Southern California crowd to be there…and it would be good to see them all again. It’s been 18 months since Rod & Fiona’s “wedding” and I’m ready for another reunion.
Hope you all are doing well…and I hope to have some ABBA calendars soon…but I haven’t heard from my penpal in Edinburgh yet so it’s on hold for now. Say hi to the gang…and I’ll keep lurking! ;-))

    • Fred, that wasn’t a comment, it was a newsletter! 😉

Lovely to hear from you. Good to see you’re still live and kickin’ and have travel plans for next year.

Carnauba Wax sounds like something that might come out of your ear! I’m glad I didn’t buy the Swedish Fish now!
