This used to be a funhouse but now it’s full of evil clowns

I love Pink. She’s a fabulous person and has done some wonderful songs. Songs with great meaning and songs that are just mean. She tells it like she feels it. I love that!

I have her latest album ‘Funhouse’ but hadn’t really listened to the lyrics of the title track until recently. Isn’t it amazing how lyrics mean different things to different people – listeners place their own perspective on what’s being sung. “Funhouse” is obviously about a love relationship that’s decayed beyond all recognition. No doubt about the breakdown of Pink’s marriage (and hooray that she’s back together and happy with hubby again!)

But when I listened to these lyrics – really listened to them – for the first time all I could think about was how I was feeling last year. I won’t mention the dreaded ‘A’ word but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. I was running a web-based organisation for 12 years. And it used to be a ‘Funhouse’ but then, as time went on, and particularly since a certain event in 2006, it just became full of ‘evil clowns’ for me. And Grant too. We had to ‘burn this sucker down’ as Pink sings in ‘Funhouse.’

Hadn’t thought about it specifically very much recently until I listened to these lyrics. I’m sure Pink would be amused to realise how I’ve interpreted and related to her lyrics. Nothing to do with what she had in mind.

But hey, it’s all in the ears of the listener and the history and life experiences they bring to the song.

And finally ‘Funhouse’ is just a fab song!
