Stockholm Pride 2010 is coming

Stockholm Pride is coming later this month. I was there last year with Yoda and we had a blast. I took a gazillion photos and recently cut them together to make a slideshow of Pride Park and the Pride Parade 2009. Enjoy!

Silence will be defeated, by a single voice

My best Swedish friend Gustav – who actually reads this website – has translated “En Enda Röst”, the song I mentioned in an earlier post. It was a wonderful surprise to open my email this morning and see the email from him. I’ve played this song over 20 times last night and today. The repeat [...]

En Enda Röst

I bought this song many years ago in a second hand record shop in Sweden. I played it a lot even though I had no idea what the lyrics were about, let alone the title of the song. I later found out it is called something like “A Single Voice” and that it was a [...]

Sometimes the studio version makes all the difference

There was a song in Melodifestivalen this year called “STOP” by Sibel. It took me a while to latch on to it but, when I did, I wasn’t impressed with the performance. Sibel’s notes seemed to be all over the place. And the two false endings of the song confused both the audience and me! [...]

Watching the Melodifestivalen final

If you go to the Social page on this website, you’ll see a stack of photos from last Sunday’s get together to watch the Melodifestivalen 2010 final on the big screen. Shots are lacking captions because I am waiting on the lovely Patrick to get back to me and remind me of all the names [...]

9 hours in my undies

What a strange day it’s been. I’m hoping to head off to bed soon and forget the whole thing! Tomorrow we have a small, but expectant gathering of the faithful to watch a DVD of the final of Melodifestivalen 2010 in a nearby pub. As I write this, the final hasn’t even commenced. In fact, [...]

How about a nice big cup of BORING BALLAD?

“Barfing (known medically as emesis and informally as throwing up and a number of other terms) is the forceful expulsion of the contents of one’s stomach through the mouth and sometimes the nose. Barfing may result from many causes, ranging from gastritis or poisoning to brain tumors, or elevated intracranial pressure. The feeling that one [...]

James is in Stockholm

My good friend James has arrived in Stockholm and a 24 hour journey covering Sydney, Bangkok and Helsinki. James isn’t frigid but Stockholm sure is as you can see from the picture here. It’s all ice, ice baby in Sweden. They’re having the longest winter they’ve had in eons. Normally the people and the weather [...]

My two favourite Melodifestivalen 2010 entries

Well, we’re at the business end of Melodifestivalen 2010. Three three semi-finals have happened and there’s only “Andra Chansen” (2nd Chance) to go before the big night. We have six confirmed songs chosen for the final already with just the two from “Andra Chansen” to go. This year’s Melodifestivalen has been a bit dull and [...]

3pm in Stockholm

In a few days, a boy who has only ever spent time in warm environments in Australia will be experiencing this. Last night he was wearing a short sleeve casual shirt and a pair of shorts. Can he survive Stockholm in early March? Will he hide under the blankets in his hotel room? Will his [...]
